Petrojam Boosts Literacy Programme of Two Corporate Area Institutions

Students of Greenwich All-Age School and St. Andrew Primary Schools now have improved access to prescribed texts thanks to a donation textbooks and workbooks by Petrojam Limited.

The schools were presented the books at a Handing over exercise last Wednesday (October 9) at their Spanish Town Road locations. The donation included Phonics, Language Arts, Mathematics and Social Studies texts among others for Grades One, Four, Five and Six.

Speaking at the presentation, Manager, Human Resource Development and Administration, Andrea Bent said the donation is Petrojam’s way of ensuring access to quality education by providing the educational resources necessary to empower our nation’s children to become meaningful contributors to society.

“We are aware of the constraints faced by some parents; many of whom might not be able to purchase the required texts for their children. We know that through this donation, more children will be able to access the texts and participate in the various learning activities, “she noted.

“We need brilliant minds, as we know that the quality of education influences the quality of the nation’s graduates and ultimately the productivity of our nation,” she continued.

She implored the students care for the books so other students can benefit from their use and to also remain focussed in their pursuit of academic success.
Principal of St. Andrew Primary, Beverley Haase thanked Petrojam for the donation, noting that the additional books will improve the performance of the students.

Brian Guscott, Principal of Greenwich All-Age School, was also heartened at the donation and expressed gratitude for Petrojam’s continued partnership with the institution.

“Some of these students are not able to do the assignment because they have no books. We can promise you  that from these books will come some very good grades.  Leaders are readers and for them to become leaders you must be able to read,” Mr. Guscott noted.

Petrojam Limited also has a scholarship programme at Greenwich All-Age School, where annually, the top male and female GSAT recipients at the institution are awarded five-year scholarships.
