Petrojam Fuels Jamaica Fire Brigade’s Training Programme

Jamaica Fire Brigade Officers will be able to access essential training thanks to a donation of three million dollar boost from Petrojam to fund critical training programmes for its officers.  The presentation was made on Tuesday, August 12, at the York Park Fire Station, Orange Street, Kingston.

The donation was made following a need expressed by the JFB for firefighters to undergo training in Auto Extrication, Urban Search and Rescue and Confined Space Entry.  A part of the donation fund public education initiatives during National Fire Awareness Week.

Petrojam’s Manager of Safety, Environment and Quality, Leon Jarrett, noted that Petrojam has had a longstanding strategic partnership with the Jamaica Fire Brigade and that this donation is a continuation of same.  “Over the years the company has facilitated in-house training of fire personnel and has on occasion provided personnel and resources to assist in extinguishing petroleum fires,” he noted.

In his response, Acting Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Errol Mowatt, said the Fire Department is grateful for the donation, which has come at an opportune time.  Mr. Mowatt also issued an appeal to Corporate Jamaica to come assist the JFB in fulfilling their mandate of responding quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
